1. Tujhe Sab Hai Pata…
Film: Tare Zameen Par; Lyrics: Prasoon Joshi; Music: Shankar, Ehsan, Loy; Singer: Shankar
Have you ever observed the eyes of a child, whether 6 months or 6 years, when he suddenly finds himself alone…his little eyes says this “meri nazar dhoonde tujhe, sochoon yehi tu aake thamegi maa…”. And then who cannot relate to “Par Andhere Se Darta Hoon Main Maa”.
Whatever be our age, there’s a great reassurance when our parents are around.
Watch for equally great performances from everyone: the kid, the mother, the father and kid’s elder brother. Superb!
This song shows that you don’t need heavy words to make a great song – hats off to Prasoon Joshi and Shankar, Ehsan, Loy for giving us this beautiful song. And hats off to Aamir Khan for making such a great film.
Main Kabhi Batlata Nahin
Par Andhere Se Darta Hoon Main Maa
Yun To Main Dikhlata Nahin
Teri Parwaah Karta Hoon Main Maa
Tujhe Sab Hai Pata, Hai Na Maa
Tujhe Sab Hain Pata,,Meri Maa Bheed Mein Yun Na Chodo Mujhe
Ghar Laut Ke Bhi Aa Naa Paoon Maa
Bhej Na Itna Door Mujhko Tu
Yaad Bhi Tujhko Aa Naa Paoon Maa
Kya Itna Bura Hoon Main Maa
Kya Itna Bura, Meri Maa Jab Bhi Kabhi Papa Mujhe
Jo Zor Se Jhoola Jhulate Hain Maa
Meri Nazar Dhoondhe Tujhe
Sochu Yehi Tu Aa Ke Thaamegi Maa
Unse Main Yeh Kehta Nahin
Per Main Seham Jaata Hoon Maa
Chehre Pe Aana Deta Nahin
Dil Hi Dil Mein Ghabraata Hoon Maa
Tujhe Sab Hai Pata Hai Naa Maa
Tujhe Sab Hai Pata, Meri Maa Main Kabhi Batlata Nahin
Par Andhere Se Darta Hoon Main Maa
Yun To Main, Dikhlata Nahin
Teri Parwaah Karta Hoon Main Maa
Tujhe Sab Hain Pata, Hain Na Maa
Tujhe Sab Hain Pata,,Meri Maa
2. Sajna Ve Sajna…
Film: Chameli; Lyrics: Irshad Kamil; Music: Sandesh Shandilya; Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan
I believe that Chameli’s music was rare. Both music and lyrics of each song were very good. Sunidhi Chauhan has done what Asha did with Umrao Jaan. In the music, use of Saxaphone is predominant – it sounds so good, wonder why no one else has used it like this. And this song is special because of it’s sheer powerful singing and the music, which is so different. This song portrays how a woman caught up in a man’s world of physical desire, suddenly meets a man who is sympathetic and caring. She is ready to give everything to him, whatever the cost. How beautifully expressed in these words, “Mann saat samandar dol gaya, jo tu aankhon se bol gaya; Le teri ho gayi yaar sajna ve sajna”. She hardly meets a soul like this and she wants to treasure the moment, “tujhe bhar loon apni aankhon mein, in aankhon ko main kholoon na”. And the fear she has, “Tu aur kissi ka na hona, main jeete jee mar jaaungi, Teri khaatir duniya se ab tanha hi lad jaaungi”
Le teri ho gayi yaar sajna ve sajna, ho sajna mere yaar sajna ve sajna
Jo saath samandar dol gaya, tere pyaar mein le bin bol gaya
Le teri ho gayi …
Oh re oh sajna oh…
Tujhe bhar loon apni aankhon mein, in aankhon ko main kholoon na
Kholoon apni baaton main phir is duniya se boloon na
Bhar loon apni aankhon mein, in aankhon ko main kholoon na
Kholoon apni baaton main phir, is duniya se boloon na
Ho…
Main dekhoon main baat karoon tere saath jeeyoon tere saath maroon
Le teri ho gayi yaar sajna ve sajna, ho sajna mere yaar sajna..
Sajna sajna…
Tu aur kissi ka na hona, main jeete jee mar jaaungi
Teri khaatir duniya se ab tanha hi lad jaaungi
Maine tujhko kahaan piya ye tan-man tere naam kiya
Le teri ho gayi yaar sajnaa
oh sajna mere yaar sajna ve sajna
Mann saath samandar dol …
Oh mann saath samandar dol gaya jo tu aankhon se bol gaya
Le teri ho gayi yaar sajna ve sajna, ho sajna mere yaar sajna ve sajna
Ho…Sajna Sajna…
3. Yaar Mangyasi Tetho…
Film: Kaante, Lyrics: Anand Raj Anand, Music: Anand Raj Anand, Singer: Sonu Nigam
This film has many good songs but I love this one – what a song to express man’s helplessness when a person is dying – just check out the lyrics. The problem is that there are many punjabi words, so folks find below the hindi translation of the first two paras. The song comes when Amitabh’s wife is dying and he is helpless – can’t do anything but complain to God. “Yaar hi to maanga tha tuhjse, koi poori khudaai to nahi maangi” – what lines to question Him and then those lines to express one’s helplessness “kitni duayeein mangu, koi bhi na mani jaaye”. This is my favorite line “Cheez Apni Hi Maangi Maine Tujhse, Koi Parai to Nahi Maangi”. One of the rare soulful song that is subtle but expresses powerfully. Watch out for Amitabh’s equally subtle but powerful portrayal of a helpless man.
Yaar Mangiyasi Rabba Tetho Ro ke, Kedi Main Khudaai Mang Laayi
Mar Jaan De Kisi Da Mainu Ho Ke
Kedi Main Khudaai…
(Yaar manga tha Rabba Tujhse Ro Ke, Kaunsi Maine Khudaai Maang Li
Mar Jaane De Kisi Ka Mujhe Ho Ke, Kaunsi Khudaai…)
Kaanu Roz Roz deve sanu dhokhe
Kedi Mein Khudai …
(Kitni Duayeein Mangu, Koi bhi Na Mani Jaaye
Kyun Roz Roz De Mujhe Dhokhe, Kaunsi Khudaai…)
Pyaar Mera, Kar Rabba Mere Hawale, Yaar Bin Dil Mera Kaun Sambhale
Cheez Apni Hi Mangi Maine Tuhjse, Kedi Mein Paarai Manglaayi
Mar Jaan De Kisi Da Mainu Ho Ke, Kedi Main Khudaai…
Mera Ye Naseeba, Hai Meri Nahin Sunta
Sapno Ke Jaal Yeh To, Roz Roz Bunta
Kabhi Sun Le Tu Meri Bhi Duhaai, Kedi Mein Khudai…
4. Tadap Tadap Ke Dil…
Film: Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lyrics: Mehboob, Music: Ismail Darbar, Singer: KK
What a singer and what a music piece!
Very few songs can rip through your heart the way this song does. Rongta khade kar deta hai. The song and music blend together to create such an impact that you feel the pain in your heart. What a soulful performance by KK. Extraordinary! Though I don’t think Salman, Aishwarya and Sanjay were able to do justice to the singing and music. What a shame!
Bejaan Dil Ko Tere Ishq Ne Zinda Kiya
Phir Tere Ishq Ne Hi Is Dil Ko Tabah Kiya
Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein Ajab Hai Ishq Yaara
Pal Do Pal Ki Khushiyaan
Gam Ke Khazaane Milte Hain
Phir Milti Hai Tanhaiyaan
Kabhi Aansoon Kabhi Aahein
Kabhi Shikve Kabhi Naalein
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye Mujhe Din Ke Ujaalon Mein
Teri Yaadein Tadpayein
Teri Yaadein Tadpayein Raaton Ke Andheron Mein
Tera Chehra Nazar Aaye
Machal Machalke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein Agar Mile Khuda To
Poochhoonga Khudaya
Jism Mujhe Deke Mitti Ka
Sheeshay Sa Dil Kyon Banaya
Aur Us Pe Diya Fitrat
Ke Woh Karta Hai Mohabbat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat Us Pe De Diya Kismat
Kabhi Hai Milan Kabhi Furqat
Kabhi Hai Milan Kabhi Furqat Hai Yehi Kya Vo Mohabbat
Wah Re Wah Teri Kudrat
Sisak Sisakke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di Pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein Tadap Tadapke Is Dil Se Aah Nikalti Rahi Hai
Mujhko Saza Di pyaar Ki Aisa Kya Gunaah Kiya
To Lut Gaye Haan Lut Gaye
To Lut Gaye Hum Teri Mohabbat Mein
Film: Guru; Lyrics: Gulzar; Music: AR Rahman; Singers: AR Rahman & Chinmayee
This song is beautiful simply because of the way Rahman has sung it and of course, his music. I always love the song that Rahman sings also. This song has an amazing singing that only Rahman can bring …that folk and classical mix. The lyrics are special but can only be justified with proper pauses while singing…like “Katoo Re kaate kate Naa” will not make sense without proper pause.
Dum dara dum dara mast mast
Dara dum dara dum dara mast mast
Dara dum dara dum dum
Oh humdum bin tere kya jeena
Tere bina besuadi besuaadi ratiyan oh sajna
Ho, ruki re, Vo ruki re
Kaatoo Re kaate, kate Naa
Tere bin…
Na jaa; chaakri ke maare
Na jaa; souten pukaare
Saawan aayega to puchega
Naa jaa rey
Pheeki Pheeki beswaadi yeh ratiyan.
Kaatore kaate na kate na
Ab tere bina sajna sajna
Kaate kate na
Tere bina beswaadi beswaadi ratiyan,
Oh sajna oh!
Tere bina chand ka sona khota re
Peeli peeli dhool udaave jhoota re
Tere bina sona peetal
Tere sang keekar peepal
Aaja kate na ye ratiyan
Tere bina beswaadi beswaadi….
great selection and pretty unusual one too.
